Fažana is a settlement on the western coast of Istria near Pula. Fažana hosted the manufacture – ceramic workshop for the production of amphorae, of the consul Caius Laecanius Bassus. The first research of the ancient Fažana started in 1909. During archaeological research in Fažana, from 2007 to 2009, parts of the perimetral wall of the manufacture, well preserved remains of two pottery kilns and also the remains of the water reservoir were discovered. The approximate dimensions of the figlina were 80 x 60 meters, thus giving a surface of about 5,000 square meters. On the basis of the dimension of the warehouse, it is supposed that the production was from 10,000 to 12,000 amphorae per year. The most intense production was recorded during the 1st century B.C. but it continued, although on a smaller scale, throughout the first three centuries A.D. and perhaps even longer. Fažana has continued to live in the Late Antiquity period, until nowadays.
